500,000 USD for a SPEECH! YABEELA!

November 30, 2008

The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) has paid $500,000 to Bill Clinton for a single lecture he delivered in Kuwait City on Sunday on his assessment of Barack Obama’s foreign and economic policies. It was delivered the day after the Kuwaiti stock market resumed trading after it was suspended by order of a Kuwaiti court on Thursday to avoid a total collapse.

Without mentioning reports that Clinton’s finances were coming under close scrutiny as his wife, Hillary Clinton, is being vetted for the job of secretary of state, the Arab-language Kuwaiti newspaper Awan published a front-page story under the headline “Clinton’s lecture at NBK cost $500,000.”

$500,000 would be a high fee, even for Bill Clinton. In 2006 he averaged almost a speech a day, at an average of about $140,000 a speech.

He has earned far more per speech, particularly from Middle Eastern or foreign organizations wishing to hear his views on a range of topics. The Dabbagh investment firm in Saudi Arabia paid $600,000 for two speeches, and China’s JingJi Real Estate Development Group paid $200,000 for a single speech. The Mito City Political Research Group in Japan paid him $400,000 in 2002 for a single speech.

Gold Services International, an event organizer based in Bogota, Colombia, flew Clinton to Latin America in 2005 for a series of speeches for which he was paid $800,000. The Power Within, a motivational-speech company in Toronto, paid Clinton $650,000 for speeches in Canada in 2005, and he returned to give more speeches for an undisclosed sum the following year. Goldman Sachs paid him $650,000 for a series of four speeches, and Citigroup paid $250,000 for a speech in France in 2004.

Previous speakers at NBK events include former President George H. W. Bush and former British Prime Minister John Major.

Do you think he deserves all that???

What will happen in 2012???

November 27, 2008

Lately,I’ve been hearing a lot about the end of the world in 2012. And last night many TV stations were shedding a light about this issue. It seems that people are getting worried about their future.

Apparently, the world is going to end on December 21st, 2012. Yes, you read correctly, in some way, shape or form, the Earth (or at least a large portion of humans on the planet) will cease to exist. Stop planning your careers, don’t bother buying a house, and be sure to spend the last years of your life doing something you always wanted to do but never had the time. Now you have the time, four years of time, to enjoy yourselves before… the end.

So what is all this crazy talk? We’ve all heard these doomsday predictions before, we’re still here, and the planet is still here, why is 2012 so important? Well, the Mayan calendar stops at the end of the year 2012, churning up all sorts of religious, scientific, astrological and historic reasons why this calendar foretells the end of life as we know it. The Mayan Prophecy is gaining strength and appears to be worrying people in all areas of society. Forget Nostradamus, forget the Y2K bug, forget the credit crunch, this event is predicted to be huge and many wholeheartedly believe this is going to happen for real. Planet X could even be making a comeback.

For all those 2012 Mayan Prophecy believers out there, I have bad news. There is going to be no doomsday event in 2012. The Mayan Prophecy is wholly based on the assumption that something bad is going to happen when the Mayan Long Count calendar runs out. Experts are divided as to when the Long Count ends, but as the Maya used the numbers of 13 and 20 at the root of their numerical systems, the last day could occur on 13.0.0.0.0. When does this happen? Well, 13.0.0.0.0 represents 5126 years and the Long Count started on 0.0.0.0.0, which corresponds to the modern date of August 11th 3114 BC. Have you seen the problem yet? The Mayan Long Count ends 5126 years later on December 21st, 2012.

Well we’ve passed in the same conditions in 2000 and nothing happened!! Just keep your faith in GOD strong and everything will be fine.  Don’t worry be happy!!

007 Review

November 26, 2008

quantum-of-solace

I had the chance last night to see Quantam of Solace, the new James Bond. Well the movie was good to an extent but Brosnan is much better than this english dude! The movie had good effects and was breathtaking in some scenes. And what I loved the most that the cinema was empty. For those who saw this movie what is your feedback?

Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaa….weekend is here!! Peace everyone

Madonna and Guy …It’s Over!

November 23, 2008

pictureoftheweek

US pop diva Madonna and her British film director husband Guy Ritchie ended their eight-year marriage in a low-key “quickie” divorce in London on Friday following a private settlement.

The singer, 50, and Ritchie, 40, did not attend the hearing before the High Court’s family division. It lasted just a few minutes and was heard along with the cases of 16 other couples who were also granted divorces on Friday.

Madonna is currently on the US leg of her Sticky & Sweet world tour, while Ritchie is working on a new film project about the life of Sherlock Holmes.

Slider Station…So cool!

November 22, 2008

I always wanted to try Slider Station but didn’t have time. I didn’t know that booking for this place needs like a week in advance. The first time we went was without booking,we waited 40 mins and didn’t get a place. This was really pissing. At last I had a chance to go yesterday and for lunch coz it gets so crowded in evenings. The interior is very nice and cozy. Although it was so cold upstairs but we managed it. I ordered some mini burgers, some appetizers, and normal burgers which were all amazing…very good food and their prices are convenient. I would go again for sure. I recommend everyone to go there.

KSE back to trading…

November 17, 2008

kuwait-stock-center

The Kuwait Stock Exchange is back to trading today by a court decision.Kuwait’s stock exchange was forced to close last week also by the court decision after traders brought a case against the government, demanding that it intervene to halt the bourse’s dramatic decline. Recent reports showed that the performance of the market has plunged down to more than 30 %.

The Kuwait Investment Authority, the country’s sovereign wealth fund, has also ploughed several hundred million dollars into the stock market in a bid to stem its decline. However, the bourse has continued its downward trend prompting protests by disgruntled investors, some of whom have been demanding that the government resign. Let’s wait and see the trend today.

Good day everyone!

Le Quatre ” Thumbs down”

November 16, 2008

Weekend was like any other one just trying some new places to dine at. I always wanted to try ” Le Quatre” since they opened and didn’t have the chance. So I decided to go with friends on Friday. At the first instance the place is catchy..nice decor and view. But when it comes to food…OMG is not good at all…they just don’t know what’s food about!! We ordered 2 sandwiches,1 salad and some drinks..the best was the pomegranate juice….My expectations were down and it’s really bad to know also that the owners are the same people who own Villa Fairouz and Mijana…wth!! How come you serve good food in these restaurants and you don’t in a newly opened one!! And to be more determined not to visit again was upon requesting the bill which was 26 KD!! I would have got a better service and amazing food at CnG instead!!

Anyways for those who wanna try it …please go and give me ur feedback!! Have a nice week everyone!

P.S : Going to Slider station last night was like visiting a religious place…OMG I can’t believe that I had to wait 45 mins to reserve a place and at last I couldn’t find one…So I cancelled my reservation. But it seems to be a good place to hangout!

Confused!!

November 12, 2008

I’m at my office now feeling so bored, drinking my nescafe and feeling cold…I wanna sleep..I wanna go out shopping…I wanna travel!! I just don’t know what to do…just mixed up feelings! My new job is good ,handling a new portfolio of VIP customers which am still being familiar with…

I was surfing the net for good travel deals on X-mas and New Years, still confused between the US or Europe, precisely London…any suggestions?? I still can’t understand why short trip flights are priced higher than the long ones…ex to New York it’s 263 KD whereas to London is 358!!!

Anyways…enjoy ur day my lovely readers! C ya!
